It’s the depth of winter up where I live in Northern Maine. We’ve got snow, gray skies, howling winds… so yeah, now is the time I want to curl up in a blanket next to the fire with a fun book. Who wouldn’t?!
Well, I definitely want to help readers with that!
Introducing my first cozy fantasy release, Brewing Trouble: Witchcraft at the End of the World!
Before I get into what the story is about, you might first want to know what the heck is cozy fantasy?! Great question!
Cozy fantasy is often defined as a term to describe lighter fantasy fiction that focuses on warmth, comfort, and a sense of belonging.
Now, you might be wondering, does that mean it isn’t exciting? Come on, it’s me! I think one of my first ever reviews mentioned “exciting adventure” and I haven’t tracked off that since! I love adventure and a good magical battle. So yes, my version of cozy fantasy has lots of magic, excitement, danger, and even some loss—because sometimes you need to lose something important to realize how much it means to you.
But the “lighter fantasy” and “sense of belonging” are woven in as well. There is humor, zaniness, friendship, and comradery. Doesn’t that sound like the perfect antidote to a long, cold and boring winter?
If you are saying, “Yes, please!” then the next thing you need to know is what the story is about! 😉
This story is set in the world of the Tainted Fae series, but is a standalone book. So, yay, you don’t have to go and read four other books to enjoy this one (but if you do enjoy Brewing Trouble, you might want to check out the other books 😉). The world of the Tainted Fae is a sort of fae apocalypse story… only their end-of-the-world time is caused by humans. And they don’t really appreciate it.
The previous four books are about the fae (and other creatures) trying to even the odds so they can survive. For some, that means working with humans. For others, that means… getting rid of the humans. The results of that has put the world into a right mess. And that is where Brewing Trouble begins—at the end of the world.
