Looking back, I’m not sure what made me choose the Summer Solstice for the first chapter of the novel other than I needed a reason for a festival and that seemed a good one (and I’ve always liked the equinoxes and solstices). But now I appreciate the symbolism. The equinox is when day and night are equal, so in the terms of my elemental world of Myrrah, fire is at its height and about to start fading. Hmmm… that sounds like the Church of Four Orders!
