2019 is going to be so exciting!
Last year with the publication of A New Goddess, my second epic fantasy series set in the elemental magic world of Myrrah came to a close. But that was early in the year! I began writing first one novella, then another, but progress was slow.
These were new worlds to build, new characters to meet, and new stories to develop. It isn’t easy.
And it just took a lot of pushing and tugging as well as long writing slogs to feel comfortable. But boy, when I did the stories started to really shine!
And now they are both nearly complete!
Enter the new series Black Throne, Black Blood
The first novella that I will release this spring is set in a world contrasted between light and dark called Sundarkk. Here magic comes from stone, metal, and gem, but how it works depends on the color of your blood. With eight races split evenly between light and dark. You might recognize some of them: djinn to elves, dragon to dwarf, satyrs to selkies (including mermaids), pixies to giants.
This is a world of constant tension … or perfect balance.
Oh and the story! I can’t wait to share with you this amazing story arc that begins with Born to Darkness! The novel is written, and I’m working on edits, of which there are quite a few. I learned so much about the characters and world between the first sentence and the last. Now I have to make it all flow correctly!
Publication will be sometime in May, though I’d love to get it out earlier if possible! For now, the book cover has been released as well as the draft blurb! Check it out on the new Black Throne, Black Blood series page!
Expect to hear a lot more about this story and world in the coming weeks!
The second project is a whole different tale…
Part Celtic faerietale mixed with post-apocalyptic harshness and urban fantasy, The Light in the Darkness is the first book in the Cailite Ré series, and before you go and look up Google Translate, that means Lost Era.
This isn’t a story set far into the future or past. It is now. It is our world. And it is gone to hell, especially if you aren’t human.
I’m only four chapters away from finishing the writing! And it is going really, really, REALLY well.
I started this story before Born to Darkness, almost a year ago in fact. But I put it aside at chapter 3. It wasn’t clicking. I couldn’t hear the main character. The plot, no matter how much I pondered it, remained fuzzy.
But that isn’t true anymore!
Sometimes it just takes time for everything to gel. And when this one did, it came roaring to life. Now the character is with me as a whispering voice so that I see my day a bit through his eyes. And that makes the writing so easy.
Publication should happen soon after Born to Darkness because I expect the edits on this one to be much easier. So maybe June? I already have the book cover and blurb for this one too. Check it out on the new Cailite Ré page!
And after these… well, I have plans. 😉
